  1. My name is Georgia Coward; I am a marine biologist working with a New Zealand based marine conservation organisation, OceansWatch. I will be visiting the beautiful country of the Solomon Islands between June and December where I will work primarily in the Temotu Province.

In addition to the work with OceansWatch I also work with the Manta Trust. Manta rays are an extremely vulnerable and incredible species. In fact, these majestic creatures are now listed as endangered and desperately need our help. The Manta Trust works to photograph and identify mantas around the world. These databases enable individuals to be identified and allow us to estimate the status of mantas globally. As a result I am in the process of setting up the Solomon Islands first photographic database of manta rays and I would love for you to be involved. The more photographs of mantas I can get hold of for the database, the better as this enables long-term monitoring of population sizes and movements.

If you have any photographs of mantas, I would appreciate if I can have a look at them and add them to the database if they are suitable? I will provide you with more detail on the individuals you spotted, an ID certificate and the chance to name any new individuals!

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Best wishes,

    Georgia Coward

About us

There are so many reasons not to start a travel blog.
And just go. And let it go.
Let the memories sink into the setting sun.

But I've promised myself, way back when the life didn't belong to me yet, that I would never say no to life in any of its spontaneous insanities, to any of its fears,to any of its challenges. That when I feel that it is the time to subtract rather than add anything else to my life, to run towards something rather than escape from, to share rather than receive, I will do so. I will subtract, I will run and I will share... read more...
